D DeLong paintings
about the artist
DeLong received a B.A. from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton FL and attended the MFA program at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn N.Y.
Her solo exhibition titled "Geometric Paintings" was held January 2019 at Englewood Art Center, a division of Ringling College of Art & Design, in the Mangrove Gallery. Her paintings have won top awards in juried fine art shows.
3 years ago DeLong added carpentry to her painting skills, initiating a series of geometric abstracts. Working in her Englewood, Florida studio she creates 3-dimensional shapes from pine and birch woods before starting painting. Each painting takes 2 to 3 months to complete although larger pieces may take much longer.
Asked whether her works could be considered sculptures because of their dimensionality she says, "Someone asked that recently at a juried exhibition in Sarasota and the juror, Ringling College art professor Joe Fig replied "They are paintings. They hang on the wall."
